In response to the worldwide demand
and interest in the Celtic Lyre - and the further questions regarding
Lyre Tuition - we decided the only answer was to run an international
summer school. The first Celtic Lyre Summer School took place in
the last week of July 2002 and the following nationalities were
represented - Japan, USA, Sweden, Denmark, Australia, England, Ireland,
Scotland, Switzerland, Germany. This was a truly international event
- and covered all abilities - beginners, intermediate, and more
experienced players.
There were 3 groups lead
by some of the most experienced lyre teachers in the world - John
Billing, Anna Cooper, and Peter Rebbe. This was a truly remarkable
week of teaching, rehearsing, artistic and social activities - culminating
in two performances - one at the Fiddlers Green International Festival
in Rostrevor and one at the Kingdom of Mourne Festival in Kilkeel.
Due to the outstanding
success of this summer school it will certainly be repeated in 2003,
probably in the late Autumn - details on request.

We are very interested
to formulate a seminar which can be a foundation on which to encourage
and propagate a network of lyre teachers. If the lyre is indeed
to manifest itself into world music, then we need teachers who can
give an introduction to basic lyre playing techniques. This will
probably be based in Dublin - details on request.
